Highlights of The Unveiling of Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway in Los Angeles

Recently, #SoJannelle was invited to the historic public ribbon-cutting and lighting of the Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway in District 13, Los Angeles. This is also the biggest Filipino gateway in all of the United States.

Artist Eliseo Art Silva designed the gateway and shared that he took inspiration from the architecture of Malay houses of Filipino nobility. This is joined by the symbolic Philippine sun, representing the eight provinces’ uprising during the Spanish colonization.

Hon. Rob Bonta, CA Atty General, mentioned the long-overdue appreciation for the Filipino people who have helped shape American History. He stressed that the event that gathered Filipino organizations and personalities symbolizes the Philippines’ significant contribution to the US.

Tia Carrere, a Hollywood actress, and singer stressed the need to celebrate being Filipino as it promotes representation for Filipinos in the United States.

This historic landmark that was 20 years in the making further promotes Filipino visibility and underscores a sense of community.

The message is clear – Be proud of your nationality; be proud to be Filipino!
