Cole Micek’s Journey from the Hard Court to Catwalk

US-born and raised, #ColeMicek is half-Filipino from his mother’s side. With little knowledge of his culture and language, he took a leap of faith when Ateneo de Manila University scouted him to play for their basketball team.

Cole quickly fell in love with the Pinoy culture, particularly the food–and even though he felt a little out of place, being half-American, the Filipinos promptly warmed up to him. He recalls on one occasion, fans were even swarming to get his photo taken, even before he played an official game with the Ateneo Blue Eagles.

His decision to pursue the art of modeling and acting came after, with Filipino-born and bred designers and directors reaching out to him to represent their works. From his passion on the hardcourt to the catwalk, Cole has had his fair share of rejections and losses, but this hasn’t dampened his dream to push himself to new heights.

His parting words for us, “Keep moving forward and chase your dreams,” are as inspiring as the twinkle in his eyes as he proudly uttered them. #PinoyPride in basketball, and soon, on the big screen too!
