Mar Dumlao gives a tour of the LA Art Box

To say that the pandemic challenged our lives is an understatement–it has turned the world upside down. It has been life-changing to everyone in many ways, and for Filipino-American Mar Dumlao, being “in the midst of the pandemic, you think about how you want to spend your life.” He was ready to add quality to the things that he was already doing, and was ready to take a leap of faith in making that happen.

In the last quarter of 2021, Dumlao, along with fellow UCLA Alumni Bernie Bernardo, founded #TheLAArtBox along Melrose Avenue. For Dumlao, putting up the LAAB was about more than just having a space to celebrate and curate art works, but it is in “understanding that we are a representation of history and everything that has happened before us, and accepting that, and doing the same for our brothers and sisters coming in the future.”

Learn more about Mar’s story and the role the LA Art Box plays in #representation of people of color in our latest segment on #SoJannelleTV.
