Here Lies Love tells a Filipino story on Broadway

Filipinos have been making their mark on #Broadway for decades, but #HereLiesLove takes it to another level for representation. The theatrical production, which opens on July 20, tells the story of the rise and fall of the Marcos regime during Martial Law, with an all-star Filipino cast in front of and behind the curtains.

Jannelle So Perkins speaks with producer Jose Antonio Vargas about how the production gives Filipinos a voice in telling one of the Philippines’ defining stories, and with Giselle Tongi, the community and cultural liaison for the show, about the importance of educating a new generation amid a time of disinformation on what actually occurred during the reign of Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos.

So Perkins also speaks with Diana DiMenna, one of the show’s producers, about being a non-Filipino working on a Filipino-centric production.
