Celebrating Excellence in Film and TV while Instituting Reforms at Golden Globes 2022

For the first time ever, the much anticipated annual #GoldenGlobeAwards won’t be televised due to the controversy surrounding diversity issues involving the #HollywoodForeignPressAssociation or #HFPA. But while it won’t air on TV, the 79th Golden Globe Awards ceremony still takes place on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at 6pm US Pacific Time.

Host Jannelle So speaks with Ruben Nepales, one of the few Filipino members of HFPA, to shed some light and information on the changes taking place. Ruben mentioned that for the past eight months they have been instituting reforms in their organization by adding representative voices including women, Black, Asian, Latins, Middle Eastern and North Africans as new members of the board. While the Golden Globes continue to celebrate excellence in film and television, this year awards will shine light not on the red carpet but on the philanthropy work of the HFPA. The Golden Globe Awards has enabled the organization to donate more than $50 million to more than 70 entertainment-related charities, film restoration, scholarship programs and humanitarian efforts over the last 27 years.
