A young Filipino executive at one of the biggest American record labels made it to the list of #Forbes30under30. John Vincent Salcedo, currently holding the position as VP for Digital Marketing at #ColumbiaRecords is making himself heard and is fixated on his goal “to cement Filipinos as a powerhouse when it comes to music.” Salcedo recounted to host, Jannelle So, his journey as he started from being an independent hiphop artist struggling from sleepless and hungry nights to finally gaining a seat at the executive table. His unique story of creating music as a teen and as an immigrant cultivating the skills to promote himself in a very competitive industry contributed to his success.
Plunging into the world of #digitalmarketing, Salcedo simplified to us his job description highlighting that his “responsibility is to make sure that artists he work with are felt on the Internet.” He advises parents to give their kids the chance to explore their creative side as there is a real career to pursue in music. And as for hopeful artists, he is pushing them to be bold enough to put forth their music and be confident in what they are making.
While, Salcedo holds a powerful position in the global music industry he is very keen on pushing Filipino talents and creating an ecosystem back to his homeland where musically-educated people can collaborate, put music together and showcase Filipino artists and music to the world. 🇵🇭🙌
