Maria Quiban on Finding Strength and Finding your Village

“I wish I had a book like that when it happened,” Maria Quiban Whitesell shared as she discussed her new book, “You Can’t Do It Alone,” a supportive guide to navigating life after loss.

After the untimely passing of her husband Sean, Maria became a single mother, raising their son as best as she could while trying to cope with grief and loss. With all the strength she could muster, she mentioned that her past experiences somehow prepared her for the obstacles in her life.

Her father died when she was young, and her mother stepped up to the plate and went on to raise her and her brother. Having experienced that, Maria admits that nothing could’ve prepared her for what she went through. That’s why she’s grateful for her “village,” surrounding herself with loving family and friends and a supportive community and work-family and viewers.

Maria recalled that her mom was strong but shared a piece of golden advice: “Ask for help when you need it.”
