Together We Rise, The Time Is Now: LA County’s Philippine American Friendship Day

Fourteen years ago, the first ever Philippine American Friendship Day took place on July 4 in the City of Carson, CA. And this year, LA County held its biggest Philippine American Friendship Day to date at Don Knabe Community Regional Park in Cerritos, CA last July 9. With its theme of “Together we rise. The time is now.”, Filipino Americans and all people of color came together to celebrate camaraderie and the beautiful contributions that they have made in the community.

Organized by the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), the festival consisted of live performances from many talented Filipino performers, cultural presentations, product booths, food vendors, workshops, and more. Among the many notable attendees are Jim Dear, former mayor of City of Carson, City of Cerritos councilmembers Lynda Johnson and Frank Yokoyama, current Cerritos mayor Chuong Vo and former mayor Mark Pulido, as well as Deputy Chief of Staff Jessica Caloza.

County of Los Angeles Supervisor Janice Hahn was also present in the said event. She emphasized how LA County is home to the largest community of Filipino Americans in the entire country and that Filipino residents make the county and country stronger.

We look forward to celebrating more of Philippine American Friendship Day in the years to come!
