NBA honors athletes with Filipino Heritage

In a historic first, 2 NBA players with Filipino heritage face off during the league’s 75th season: #JordanClarkson, point guard of Utah Jazz and #JalenGreen, shooting guard of the Houston Rockets. And because October is also Filipino American History Month, game organizers decided to honor them with a #FilipinoHeritageNight celebration, allowing hundreds of fans at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas to know more about the two players’ Filipino ancestry and culture.

In addition to being Filipino Americans, both players stand at 6 feet 4 inches, and have received numerous awards for their excellent sportsmanship and performance on the court.

During the lively post-game interview, Clarkson remarked that he had enjoyed playing for Gilas, the Philippines’ national basketball team during the 2018 Asian Games, and hopes Green can also wear the Gilas jersey someday. Green, however, has already played for Team USA during a FIBA Tournament.

Clarkson’s mother is from Bacolor, Pampanga, Philippines, while Green is a descendant of Filipino immigrants in California.
