From breakdancing to nursing, and now cooking for the community in the time of COVID

#JustinForonda was born and raised in Los Angeles’ #HistoricFilipinotown — and like many children of Filipino immigrants, he pursued a career in nursing. Prior to becoming a nurse, however, he had won local and international awards for break dancing!

In 2019, he had a creative itch and decided to merge this with his love for cooking and Filipino food — so he opened #HiFiKitchen, a Filipino-Angeleno restaurant named after the neighborhood he grew up in. Just after their first year anniversary, COVID-19 broke out — and Foronda had to split his time between working at the hospital as a nurse during the pandemic, and running the restaurant with the help of his tight and talented crew.
