Self-Defense Against Hate Crimes

We had hoped that this day would never come. Still, due to the rise of Asian-related crimes in the US, our kababayans in the community are doing all they can to prevent this hate crime.

#AAPIWomenStrong, along with several other organizations, is holding self-defense classes to better equip women to navigate their day-to-day activities.

Jess Ng, Muay Thai fighter and trainer, shared her worry over women, especially elders, who are not well-equipped to handle such attacks from aggressors. To combat this, Jess generously devotes her time sharing her knowledge in the art of self-defense to the women in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The session taught foundational martial arts techniques, situational awareness, and bystander prevention.

Lara Gregory of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Hate Crimes Task Force stressed the importance of addressing these alarming incidents in our community. NaFFAA is a non-partisan and non-profit organization that promotes the welfare and well-being of Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the US.
