COVID symptoms and protocols, Help for DV victims during stay-at-home order

In this show – Jannelle talks to experts who share tools on how to manage Covid – the latest on Covid care, Covid recovery, mortgage relief and Covid protocols plus a tribute to #frontliners

In segment 1, Jannelle talks to 40yr veteran pulmonologist, 20 years in critical care, Dr. Ashok Kumar (Hawthorne, CA) – about the latest in Covid care, including cases in elder homes.

Dr. Kumar also gives us perspective on symptoms experienced by Covid patients who are admitted for critical care in hospitals – shortness of breath; organ dysfunction and failure (such as kidneys); and a lot more GI symptoms. While the more common symptoms are – body aches, loss of appetite, loss of smell, loss of taste, fever and cough. The sicker people almost always end up in a ventilator.

Dr. Kumar also mentions the trend he’s seeing that a lot of the patients come from convalescent homes, skilled nursing facilities and assisted living. These are people that come in with underlying conditions – diabetes, pulmonary diseases, hypertension, heart failure, dementia. These are the people who are sick to begin with, and get “super sick” because of Covid19.

But he also clarifies that they have been seeing a lot of patients who have very minor symptoms going to them, thinking they have something minor; but then become really ill after 2 weeks.

He emphasizes the message that THIS IS NOT FLU. THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR LIKE FLU. AND THIS IS A DEADLY DISEASE. He ends with assertion that the best treatment is prevention by social distancing and washing hands diligently.

Segment 2 starts with financial advice on Mortgage Relief, from Rod Mercado, Owner/CEO of Financial Rescue, LLC.; followed by an interview with Dr. Sari Eitches who got afflicted with Covid and recovered from it.

Segment 3 opens with a tribute to frontliners from @LifewithLilly ; followed by a discussion on Domestic Violence in the time of Covid.

Safer at home is NOT the case for everyone. And for anyone who has experienced or is experiencing #domesticviolence – the home is not a safe place. In these times of quarantine orders, domestic violence cases are also on the rise, as both abusers and the abused are cooped up together at home, 24/76.

Michelle silently suffered mental, psychological, emotional, financial and physical abuse for 10 years in the hands of her ex-husband. At the time, this stay-at-home mom of 2 very young children only found “rest” when her ex would leave the house to go to work, every day. And in this segment, she boldly shares her insights and tips on how to cope, how to deflect anger, how to avoid conflict; and how to decide whether to stay in an abusive relationship or leave.

She says the first thing to do is avoid; try not to be in the same room. Stay away. Leave if you can. But if you want to make things work, the first indication that the abusive spouse is willing to change is if he/she accepts and admits that he/she is an abuser. Without this, Michelle says, there will be no change.

In segment 4, Jannelle talks to Dr. Pooja Kumar (Hawthorne, CA) – on Covid protocols – When to call the doctor; When to go to the ER; When to ask for a test; What to do, etc. According to her – “Alarm Symptoms” are: severe lack of oxygen, cannot catch your breath, coughing won’t stop, lips turn blue, confusion, chest pain.
