Justice has Prevailed for the Wong Family

Asian-American parents win unprecedented case against Santa Monic-Malibu school district and receives a $45M judgment from the jury!

Nadine and Charles Wong’s non-speaking autistic twin boys were abused by their teacher aide for months during SY 2017-2018. At least 11 employees from the district knew, from the bottom all the way up to management. But nobody reported to authorities, until a school bus driver blew the whistle.

When confronted, the school district denied any wrongdoing, continued to employ the perpetrator of the abuse, and refused any accountability.

As a result of the trauma of the abuse, the boys, now 12, have been diagnosed with PTSD. They have become more aggressive and have been lashing out to caretakers, including their Mom, who has bruises, scratches from her own boys.

The Wongs decided to take their case to court and embarked on what would be a 5 year quest for justice. Through heartaches and exhaustion, they firmly believed they had to be the voice of their twins, but also of other special needs children who can’t advocate for themselves.

Last 10/20, after 4 long weeks of daily court hearings, the jury found the defendants guilty and awarded the Wongs $45M in damages.
