In segment 1, Jannelle talks to Atty. Stephanie Sy of Sy & Smith Law, who breaks down the latest Trump EO on #immigration – What it is, Who’s affected and Who are exempt.
Section 1: Suspension and Limitation on Entry
This section states that aliens seeking to enter the US as immigrants is suspended. This Executive Order applies to aliens:
- Who are outside the U.S. on the effective date of the proclamation;
- Who do not possess a valid immigrant visa on the effective date; and,
- Who do not have other official travel documents (such as an Advance Parole) besides a visa.
Section 2. Scope of Suspension and Limitation on Entry The following list are exempt from Section 1:
- Lawful permanent residents (green card holders)
- Aliens seeking to enter the U.S. on an immigrant visa as a: physician, nurse, or other healthcare professional, to perform medical research intended to combat the spread of COVID-19, or to perform work essential to combating recovering from, or otherwise alleviating the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak, as determined by Secretary of State or Secretary of Homeland Security;
- Aliens applying for the EB-5 category;
- Spouses, children under 21 or prospective adoptees of U.S. citizens;
- Any alien who further important U.S. law enforcement objectives, as determined by Secretary of State or Homeland Security;
- Members of the US Armed Forces or their spouses and children; and
- Special Immigrants (including Iraqi and Afghani translators and religious workers-EB-4).
Segment 2 features Rod Mercado, Owner/CEO of Financial Rescue, LLC., who gives advice about how the community can come together to beat this global pandemic, including how and where to report price gouging.
Segment 3 opens with 4yo Lilly of @LifewithLilly sharing her perspective on #socialdistancing ; followed by a discussion on the growing anti-Asian sentiment and xenophobia. Aside from fighting coronavirus, Asians are also fighting growing anti-Asian sentiment and xenophobia. And communities around the world, especially in America are fighting back with #hateisavirus and #washthehate campaigns.
Brendan Flores, President and National Chair of The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA), gives a grim picture of how real and how ugly it has been; along with tips on how to fight it and stand up to bullies, including the 5 Ds of bystander intervention – Distract- Delegate- Document- Delay- Direct.
In segment 4, Jannelle talks to College Counselor Patrick Lorenzo who clarifies the confusion about standardized testings, grading and submission deadlines for the #collegeapplication process, during this time of a global pandemic. He also offers tips on how student may make their applications stand out.
