#NesthyPetecio ‘s name is forever inked in Philippine history, being the first-ever Filipina boxer to bring home a medal from the Olympics. Petecio, who felt a different kind of connection and confidence in herself, pours her heart out with host Jannelle So in this interview.
Falling short from her bid to snatch the gold, Petecio feels that the numerous blessings pouring her now are worth more than winning the gold. Yet, she regrets not getting the gold for her coaches, Coach Nolito Velasco and Coach Reynaldo Galido, and her close friend who recently passed away. But, she’s determined, #SoGame and won’t stop until she gets the Philippines an Olympic Gold in boxing. And her next goal—Paris Olympics 2024!
Boxing her way out of poverty, Petecio emotionally shares that she keeps on doing this sport because of her family. As shared by ABAP Secretary-General Ed Picson in a previous So Game episode, Petecio and her family did not get to celebrate any Noche Buena not until she was able to compete in international competitions. And the first Noche Buena spread they’ve shared when Nesthy came home with her winnings—spaghetti and hotdog. Now, they can definitely celebrate and feast on more.
