The highly-anticipated Filipino anime #Trese is now streaming on #Netflix. Based on the award-winning graphic novel by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, the series brings the city of Manila and Filipino folklore creatures such as Tikbalang and Tiyanak to life. Also, breathing life to the characters are Hollywood actors of Filipino descent like Shay Mitchell, Nicole Scherzinger, Lou Diamond Phillips, Darren Criss, JonJon Briones, with Pinoy celebrity Liza Soberano leading the Filipino language cast.
But, did you know that Trese’s showrunner, executive producer and director is also a Filipino? #JayOliva started his career as a storyboard artist at the age of 19 and became a director at 21. He has been working in big animation studios like Sony Animation, Warner Bros., DC, Marvel Studios and has collaborated with Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck. Now at 45, Jay is the youngest owner of an animation studio – Lex and Otis- the first and only Filipino-owned animation studio in Hollywood! And Trese is Jay’s love letter and tribute to his Filipino parents. ?? How cool is that?!
