#mentalhealth is more critical now, more than ever – as people struggle to make sense of the loss (loss of lives, jobs, businesses, income, and so on) during this time of a global pandemic; and being cooped up at home, without interaction with friends and family for months.
In this interview, LMFT Cara Morales shares her tips for mental health in general, for couples, for parents of children aged 0-5 years old and for parents of children aged 6-12 years old.
For mental health in general:
- Develop coping skills
- Stay connected to others
- Don’t lose hope
For couples:
- Be intentional about spending time together that is relational and not just transactional
- Learn and appreciate new things about your spouse
- Manage conflict well
For parents of 0-5 year olds:
- Maintain a consistent routine
- Continue toddler development
- Offer extra cuddles
For parents of 6-12 year olds:
- Have a schedule
- Strengthen the relationship with your child by spending extra time with them
- Manage screen time

- Be aware of brain development and help them manage the tsunami of emotions
- Help them connect with their peers
- Help them define their purpose and direction
Cara Morales has a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University. She is further trained in Bereavement Therapy, trauma therapy, and #GottmanCouplesTherapy. She has worked with adolescents in the high school setting for over 15 years, and has a private practice where she works with adults, couples, and families. She is passionate about helping people live their fullest life and experiencing meaningful relationships. She is married and has 3 children.
